We are fostering a rescue dog

She is coming to us this afternoon. We haven't had a dog before, thought fostering would be a good way of testing things out.

She was found abandoned, so we don't know anything about her background.

DD is so excited, she may explode Grin

Will the vet make a guess about how old she is?

She is small, but I don't know if that means she is young and will be puppy-like or not.

The vet should be able to guess but won't be able to be exact.

Just take it slowly - dogs who have an unknown background could have all sorts have problems. I'm going to take a guess that you have been placed with this particular dog because your circumstances are compatible, but don't expect perfection. It may take a lot of work, the dog may be very unsure. Let the dog settle in and don't bombard it with affection. Let it get used to you and new surroundings. It will want to check EVERYTHING out!!! He he he.

May also wee a bit on floors and do a bit of scenting - all perfectly normal stuff. Be careful not to let dd be too in it's face - the dog might not like it and might make dog wary of dd. Advise dd that dog will come to her in its own tim(just trying to remember what I was like with my first dog!)

Aww....so exciting. Hope it works out for you - good luck and enjoy your new family member.

Oh and use lots of treats!!

Yes the dog lady, as dd calls her, said that she thinks this dog will be a good match for us, but there are some behaviours that they can't assess in the kennel, so there is some uncertainty.

I will tell dd to be gentle with the dog, thanks for the tip.
