Went to see a puppy - are we mad?

We rehomed a lovely staffy cross shar pei from the rscpa about a year ago now and today we went to see a litter of puppies they have there. Been thinking about a puppy for a little while but as these came up thought we'd go and look.

We saw a lovely black staffy cross puppy there that we all love, children love him too, he'll be 8 weeks old at the weekend. We also have 2 cats, our dog is just over 1, 3 kids and I'm expecting a baby in December.

Are we mad to be thinking about this seriously? Kind of made up our minds as we've reserved him and made an appointment to take our dog to meet him next week He was just so gorgeous though, very friendly; so much so that he was trying to hump one of the big teddies lol.

The puppies were all born at the shelter, 5 days after mum was taken in. She's been taken from previous owners, found lying in her own poo She was a lovely girl, staffy too but they aren't sure what breed the father is. They thought a male puppy would be better seeing as we have a female so we picked from the 4 they had that weren't reserved already.

What do you think?

In a word....yes!!

Says thw woman who is getting sat by a 4 month old Labradoodle and a 8 month old Staffy who are fighting for my fusses and attention.

Hehe. Aww they sound adorable. Dp and dd have just come back from a walk (while I put the younger two to bed), I say a walk but it was to look for one of the cats that always follows us when we walk the dog. He gets lost though when he comes and has to be rescued! We usually make sure he's inside or not about but today he was too fast. He's an odd cat . He's only been "lost" a couple of hours but already "starving" according to dd, and is a "poor thing" lol.

And yes from the lone mother of two who has had at least 2 dogs since long before the DC were born and who adopted a Staffie cross from the pound when she was pregnant with DD2 and DD1 was about 14 months old!

Hey, you go for it and enjoy. You're clearly not unaware of what it's all about and anyone who is willing to adopt a Staffie/Staffie cross gets a big thumbs up from me. God knows they need the help.

There is one thing that you MUST do.

Photos please, when he comes home with you.

I love them, they're such sweet dogs. Ours is just so lovely and has a sweet temperament, very, very bouncy still but not a bad bone in her body. I think Staffys get an awful press It's so unfair on the poor dogs as they are lovely, it's just owners that can ruin a dog; nothing to do with the breed imo.

Will be hard work I know, but it's like labour, afterwards you forget what it's like I remember the early weeks being difficult but looking back it seems easy lol.

So excited. Will definitely get some photos up when he comes home. We played with him for quite a while at the shelter (kids were there too) and afterwards you could see he was all tired out. Could just imagine him zonked out here with us.

Well, picking him up tomorrow, I think we've decided on Mars as a name as we already have a Fudge (she's a lovely fudgey, caramel colour) as he's black with a couple of small white patches.

We took our dog to meet the puppy a few days ago and they got on well, ours was a little nervous a first surprisingly but perked up and it went well. We spend around an hour all together and it was lovely. The new pup was trying to latch on to our girl, awww.
