is it possible?

dh gets up at 5am for work, and the pups whine as soon as they hear a noise.

lately i have getting up at around 2am and letting them out for a wee.

then at 5, dh lets them out again, but doesnt feed them.

just before 6, i set up camp on the sofa and the pups sleep on the rug next to me in the living room.

they seem calmer since i started doing this.

before they would sleep through, get up at 5, makes laods of noises barking and whining, get fed and be boiterious for ages.

Definately sleep train dogs.

Are they crated?

What time is the last feed?

Is the room dark that they sleep in?

They should not need to get up in the night now to wee.

Of course they will love it if you do get up to them and unfortunately it can be a hard habit to break.

We started crating our rescue dog at night because she would do dirty protests on the kitchen floor when we went to bed and thought crating her would be the best solution to break this habit.

For the first month or two of crating her, she would whine or bark if she woke up and it was light, no matter what the time, and we'd get up and let her out (she'd be taken out for a walk at about 6.30am anyway but if she woke up earlier she'd let us know). Anyway, after a couple of months of us sticking to the routine of taking her out at 6.30 and not rushing down as soon as she started whining, she's now as good as gold. Just chills out in her crate until we come down and at night takes herself off to the crate when we tell her to go to bed.

She does tend to whine a bit if we've put her in the kitchen at other times and she hears us banging around in the rest of the house but I think that's just because she doesn't like to think she's missing out on anything! She's very sociable and a real people dog.
