Am I mad to consider a dog?

We have DD (11mo) and a cat. Reasonable garden. I will be working 2 days a week shortly. I would love to have a dog and am thinking it's not a bad time. We've just had guests visiting with one and it was no trouble (despite being enormous). DD loved it, cat didn't. She (cat) didn't go in the rooms it was in, but avoids the baby in the same way. DD didn't like dog barking, but otherwise followed it around, laughed when she saw it, looked for it if it went out of sight.
I'm thinking small - medium rescue dog but having just browsed the local dogs' home sites, it appears they don't tend to rehome dogs with young children. Am I being unrealistic? I don't really want a puppy, due to being out two days a week.

Not mad, just misguided.

If you have a job, even if only for two days per week, you can't have a dog and care for it properly. And if you can't care for a dog properly, you shouldn't have one at all. End of story.

I don't think you are mad.
You could arrange a dog walker to take the dog out on the days you will be working.
Lots of people have pets and work!

They shouldn't. Or, at least, they shouldn't have a dog. I'm sure a cat would be fine. But it's easier to bung a baby in a nursery while you work than it is to get a dog looked after!

Thanks for your opinions. I do have a local non-working friend who would be able to walk on the two days.

ArthuriaAugustaDArcy So what happens if you already have a dog and want to get back to work? Does that mean i either can't work or should re-home my dogs?
I really don't see any problem with a dog being left at home a couple of times a week if a dog walker comes to take them out.
