Car crate for springer spaniel - useful?

Is it sensible to get some kind of puppy crate for the car - an Astra hatchback so not large - and if so, what have you found works best? We will be collecting our puppy in two weeks and have a 2 hour car journey home, but also to and fro from the park in time, so practical tips v much appreciated. I guess the alternative (later on) is simply to divide off the boot from the rest of the car. What do you do?

dog guard would be pretty standard if you are a dog owner and don't want it leaping through when you are driving.

I have used a dog seat belt for my older Cocker Spaniel. While it's a puppy a crate will be fine, provided you can anchor the crate down too.

I'm looking at getting a crate for the car too, but there are so many to chose from!
For our 3 hour journey home in 3 weeks time, the puppy will be getting cuddles from me but I will need something for future use.

I have a dog guard that I have used a couple of times that isn't quite right for my car. I am probably going to sell that one at some point soon. (It's in Argos for £27 if you are interested)

Thanks all - yes there's too much choice. Just want someone to say - get that one!

kid - I probably need to buy the guard that will fit my car specifically, thanks though!

Crate essential. Dog guards are a bit of a pain TBH.

Mum & Dad used crates all the time moving dogs to and from shows. Just lifted them out when they were not in use. They had big ones that they also used to put the dogs in occassionally when they needed to be contained in the house.

Big metal ones are heavy, last forever and do not move around in the back of the car as long as they are put at the back of the seat so they cannot slide forward.

I had the Vari-kennel for my springer.
Invaluable for containing the mank that a SS generally collects on a walk.
Lined it with old carpet and a sheet.
We have an estate car, and were able to drop half the back seat to put it on.

Measure your car boot and look at measurements carefully.

The site I linked to have a great selection at reasonable prices
