Can you get a fully washable dog bed?

My dog's bed is a big cushion type thing where the cover unzips and can be washed but the filling can't. Well I think the filling is beginning to smell, plus the zip has now broken and I can't zip it back up.

SO I need a new bed and would like one where the whole thing can be washed. Would prefer a cushion type one but can't rind one where the whole thing is washable. Is my only option one of those hard plastic beds? But again what do I line it with to make it comfy?

It needs to be fairly big as dog is a greyhound.

Thanks.

Our house is FULL of old duvets and things that are no good for anything but a dog bed. Cheap duvets, pillows, cushions etc are easy to wash. The hard plastic beds are good because they contain the bedding and they don't get draughty.

agree with silent - cheap/old duvets are the way to go. not that I have one for dd but next time we need a new bed it's what i'll do. also means you can wash teh cover mainly and the actual duvet less often iyswim

but also - even if the cushion thing you've got says it can;t be washed - it might be worth trying - if you're going to throw it anyway you've not got much to lose (except maybe your washing machine...just covering my back...)

Pets at Home had something that looked like a dogs camp bed, a nylon tent fabric type covered mattress which looks as if you can sponge it clean and you could put the old duvet on top.

Mine has a 'Tuffies' bed.
The bed itself is like a waterproof covered futon mattress and can be hosed off or wiped down. I bought a fleece cover to go over it too.
They're fairly expensive but will be the only bed your dog will ever need.

My dog has a Bia Bed. Really comfy (I'd happily sit in it, and often do) and wipe clean. I put on a fleecey cover during winter to make it a bit warmer.

Thanks, think I'll go with a duvet. I'll buy a cheap one and a cover for it.

Our old dog had one of these I washed it hotter than 30 and it lasted for several years. Cheap too

That looks really good Drusilla but even the large size one would be too small. It says its only 70cm across. I'll have a look in the shop though when I'm in town.

I vote for duvets every time. Cut single duvet in half and stich up both cut edges, you can do it by hand if you haven't got a machine - dead easy, then a couple of old duvet covers ( I cut and sew these too, but you can just fold over the empty half, and then you have 2 fully washable bed which fits in our riduculously small uk washing machines, and you can alternate every week and it never smells!

vet bed, pop in wash and dries fast, we line a big plastic bed with it, buy a few changes and bobs a happy uncle of yours

Am astonished you have a greyhound that hasn't become a sofa coloniser! Another voter here for the duvet option - we get them very cheap at Ikea, pop in a single duvet cover and fold into quarters. One hound spends many happy hours re-arranging to his precise preference. Both duvet and cover easily washed. All are happy. :O
