We have (well had) 2 guineas - 4 years old.

Olivia was quite a fat guinny and my next door neighbour just phoned up to say she'd found her not moving this morning. She'd googled what to do and spoken to the pet shop who'd suggested she preserve her so we can bury her when we get home. So my poor next door neighbour has a dead guinea pig in her freezer.

Just some advice from you guinea lovers out there. I know the other guinea will be sad as she always looks for olivia when they're not together, but is it a good idea to get another?

How heart breaking. We have been in a similar situation twice now. I would recommend waiting a few weeks just to make sure the other piggy is healthy then think about getting a friend for her. Introductions need to be done gently. First time introduced a new young one they bonded rightaway and cuddled up together. Second time existing piggy really dominated new piggy for quite a while. They get along just fine but don't cuddle up together really. I make sure there are 2 sleeping places so they can be away from each other if they want to.

I think it also depends how long you want to keep having GPs for iyswim.

We currently have a lone rabbit as now the children are older & not so interested we have decided not to keep replacing.

I also think that with enough human contact then they don´t have to be in pairs.

Sometimes I think that when you do have 2 it´s almost an excuse to interact less with them as they have each other.
