ive had my beautiful cat for 1 and a half years now. she is about 4 years old. she has one of these meows that just goes on and on and goes straight through your head and seems to last forever. you only have to look at her and she'll do a long piercing mmmmmmmmmeeeeeeeeeeeeeooooowwwwwwwwwww at you. but she only does it for attention and it has never bothered me.

my dp however cant stand her meow and it does his head in. Over the last few months he's started getting stressed out with her. not being horrible as such, just telling her to shut up (not shouting at her, just a moody voice) and he sometimes gives her a moody 'mmmmeeeeeeeooooooowwwwwwww' back.

she has clearly not liked him from the day i got her (even though he didn't have a problem with her back then), but over the last month or so she has become terrified of him. as soom as she hears him she cowers, runs and hides, cries, meows even more at him, and i found a puddle of wee the other day where she had been hiding. she also hid behind the tv the other night and last night i found a big poo that she must have done while she was hiding.

rehoming her is not an option for me because i love her. when my dp isn't round she;s completely fine. over the last few days ive made dp ignore her and not 'meow' back at her or scare her in any way, but she's still terrified.

what can i do to make her feel better? i even got dp to give her a stroke when she was behind the tv to show her he's nice - maybe thats why she shit herself!!

any advice on what i can do? i dont like the cats going in the bedrooms i have another cat who loves dp) but should i let her have her own room when dp is round or something?

advice would be greatly appreciated

are you sure he hasn't done more than just meowing moodily at her?

her behaviour suggest so tbh

MadreInglese · 16/07/2010 15:37

not neccessarily him I guess, but it sounds like something has literally scared the shit out of her

thanks for replying MadreInglese. i dont think he's done anything major. he wont be round as much over the summer hols as he'll be with his kids so im hoping i can get my kitty back to her old self and re-introduce dp slowly. other than that i have no idea what else to do

have you tried the feliway room diffuser thingy? We have a v nervous cat who will pee around the house and she would sometimes go and sniff the diffuser. Not sure it made a huge difference for her but it might help you. Cats Gallery on line sell it cheaper than the vets. We also gave her some calming tablets we got from Pets At Home, this stuff also came liquid form to put on her food if tablets are too traumatic, and she really liked the taste, it also seemed to calm her down. Can't remember the name off the top my head but next time ds lets me put him in his pram for 30 seconds I'll go look!

Might be better if dp completely ignored her, doesn't look at or talk to her, no eye contact, doesn't pat her etc so she realises he's not interested in her and is therefore not a threat, it then means that she can decide just how much contact she has with him.

Calm-eze tablets or Serene-Um drops
