I'm wondering if you could give me some help.

My Db is looking to rescue a SBT pup or young dog. They want a young one as they are also getting a Northern Inuit puppy mid August, so want them to grow up together.

He had applied for a rescue Staff from another rescue but they are mucking him about something terrible,he's been waiting 6 weeks for a home check date, and when he last enquired about the dog he wanted they hadn't even let him know she'd had an op.

We're in Bedfordshire, so any rescues in the South that you could recommend?

I told him there is a great lady on Mumsnet, that I'm sure could give him some ideas of rescues to try ...

Hi and sorry for keeping you waiting.

I've put out a shout tonight to those who immediately came to mind from my contact list and will forward any helpful replies.

Off the top of my head, there is East Anglia SBT Club Rescue - HERE

Also HULA, Milton Keynes area who say on their website that they carry out all the checks/vax etc but worryingly indicate that they do not always neuter in advance of adoption, so beware. TBH I had a relative who volunteered for them for a while and who was wholly unimpressed with THEN, though not their dogs but to be fair she is not a rescue person and so her views don't necessarily carry much weight. I'd advise that your DB sees for himself if he wishes to and would be interested in his take on it.

Depending on the sex and temperement of the Inuit and on the SBT he takes to, rescue might advise he settles the Inuit in first - best he asks.

I found these people too, but have no knowledge of them:

South Eastern Counties Staffordshire Bull Terrier Rescue
John & Gwen Laker, Canterbury, Kent. Tel: 01227 471647

Will wait to see what replies I get to my email appeal and come back to you.

As ever, please remind DB to ensure that the rescue will neuter, vaccinate, homecheck (for HIS benefit as well as the dogs), microchip and be insistant that they take the dog back if DB can't keep him.

That said, if he was to take from a rescue that had the latter policy as part of their contract and ever experienced the need to rehome his dog, there is always help out there. After all, in such cases where the owner knows that if the dog is returned he will be PTS, I, to the best of my knowledge, have never met an independent rescue which has been in a position to, or willing to, issue legal proceedings for breech of contract if the owner chose to take his dog to no-kill rescue instead.

BTW, does your DB have children and if so how old are they please? This will make a difference as to what might be possible.

Thank you for all your help.

They have no children yet, and are animal mad, lol.

I will get him to mention the new pup (inuit) coming to any rescue centres he deals with.

I'll pass the links on.

Many Thanks yet again.

Have sent out to more contacts and had another thought - Doris Banham rescue, here:

They are desperate for homes and usually have heaps of SBTs.

Hi moonmother.

Have had a couple of dogs put forward as suggestions by a rescue owner - if you or your brother would like to contact me at alfaalfa AT live DOT co DOT uk, I'll pass on pictures, the rescue owner's own email address and details.

ETA - Just had another email from a rescue with young SBTs and posibly pups coming in

HTH.

I'll pass all the details onto my brother and I'm sure he'll be in contact soon
