Petition: Stricter points‑based immigration system for the UK

VoiceforUK2026 · 13/06/2026 18:31

I’ve started a Change.org petition calling for a fairer, stricter points‑based immigration system. The aim is to ensure people coming to the UK have the skills we need, while protecting public services and local communities. It’s addressed to the Home Secretary and UK Parliament.

While the Australian system has a lot of flaws and Australians themselves are its harshest critics, I'd almost welcome it for the UK at this stage as it would allow us to bring back EU-style Freedom of Movement.

Most of this petition, though, has nothing to do with immigration and almost all of it completely misunderstands the current system. The extremist misogyny is unacceptable. Plus you can't insist that immigrants speak English and you can't abolish dual/multiple citizenships; even if you completely overhauled the legal systems of the UK, reneging on the Dublin Accords would turn the UK into an international pariah state.

People complain about the UK government not getting anything done and then attempt to waste Parliament's time with completely impractical nonsense. I suspect that if Parliament somehow passed this piece of creative writing as law tomorrow, its author would be among the first protesting the waste of public funds on all the very predictable legal challenges they'd be fighting for years afterward.

(If anyone doesn't want to click the link and prefers a visual summary, see above.)

Many visa categories already require you to speak English. Obviously you can't for example get a skilled worker visa if you can't speak English well enough to do the job.

I agree the petition is nonsense though.

Oh yawn. You lot really are one trick ponies.

Lemonfrost · 14/06/2026 10:15

That petition...with a whole EIGHT signatures...just brilliant. It's got all the finesse and direction of a junior school project. Well done OP, and thanks for the laugh.

Could you please explain how the current system differs from your demands?

Several of the things you demand in large capitals are already covered, IMO. Legal immigrants pay a massive NHS fee, for instance. And Labour is increasing ILR qualifying period to 10 years, so no one will be able to claim benefits until they have been here for 10 years. There is already an English test required.

“The current system lets people qualify with lower salaries and uses loopholes like PhDs or shortage lists to offset pay. Family migration is broad, and there’s no cap. My petition asks for higher salary thresholds, stricter English, fewer exceptions, and limiting family sponsorship to only spouses and kids — so we bring in people who contribute most and protect public services.”

Did you ask AI that?

We do need lower paid shortage workers. Healthcare, hospitality, etc - they do contribute, significantly.

Yes, they won’t be net contributors, but many UK born people aren’t.

They contribute by supporting vital services that otherwise would struggle, due to levels of demand and staffing.

Remove haters instantly

I could get on board with this bit.

When can we deport the OP and all of the Reform/Restore supporters, and where are we sending them?

ID cards would make a much bigger difference to illegal working and those dodgy vape shops etc.

Or even a licensing system such as with pubs, with a named responsible person. Together with powers for the police to immediate shut down places.

Why is that in inverted commas?

Your petition thingy read like a combination of AI meets GCSE project - except AI would have done a better job of writing it so that's rather confusing

I'm wondering how much you know about the current situation with laws around immigration. None of the problems we actually have have been explained in here. okay a couple of them have but other than that, it reads... not quite written by an adult?

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 14/06/2026 14:14

Nationality SOLELY by father’s nationality: birth in UK / British mother confers NO citizenship if father not British.

OP, would you care to explain why you believe that my daughter, born in the UK to a British mother, and only ever having lived in the UK, should not be entitled to British citizenship?

Your petition is abhorrent and it merely reflects your ignorance and your prejudice.

People like my daughter contribute far more to our society than people like you. You should be ashamed of yourself.

titchy · 14/06/2026 14:21

LlynTegid · 14/06/2026 07:53

Any change I would start with student visas. Some of the places called universities do not offer degrees of high quality and probably well below the standard obtainable in most countries of origin.

So you’d choose to start with the visa that has the highest adherence rate, the lowest amount of abuse. That would be a bit like a petition to make roads safer that focussed on cycling proficiency tests in primary schools.

On the other hand, if you fancy say American citizenship for your kid, put Bill Gates down as father on the BC. In fact, maybe Emmanuel Macron to get that EU passport. I quite like that idea Grin

IDoHaveACrystalBall · 14/06/2026 17:01

Yes, why is it by the father? That makes absolutely no sense.

Presumably because the OP and those who have signed their shitty petition are as misogynist as they are racist?

However, with only 10 signatories in total, the petition doesn't seem to be going too well for the OP so far.

MrsMabelThorpe · 14/06/2026 18:35

We, the undersigned, demand sweeping, permanent, unchangeable rules

This isn't a petition about immigration; apparently, OP's first demand is the removal of Parliamentary sovereignity. Not sure that's very... British?

Well, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Over 24 hours later, the petition has still only managed to attract a paltry 11 signatures. I don't think we need fear that the OP and her cronies are going to mount a coup just yet.

Walkyrie · 14/06/2026 19:48

I think we need net zero immigration, a ban on high risk countries and faster and stronger deportation procedures. No more spending 5 years listening to an application for asylum from an EU country (yep - this happens) because they want the can kicked down the road, and at great expense to the public as they’re ‘entitled’ to endless legal representation.

We have allowed 7 million immigrants since the year 2000 and our economy and NHS are worse than ever. So, it’s not working.

Why is it racist to want a better and stronger immigration system?

FKAT · 14/06/2026 19:59

We don't need more laws. We need the government to enforce laws that exist. Sex offenders legally lose their right to remain but no government body enforces it, so they stay in the UK.

Meanwhile we still need people willing to work as carers, fruit pickers, food processing workers, NHS cleaners and nurses, hospitality. Homegrown Brits either can’t, or won’t, fill these roles and these industries / services would collapse without immigrants to work in them

Homegrown Brits make up the majority of those professions. Stop lying.

Walkyrie · 14/06/2026 19:49

I haven't said that it is.

But I absolutely do find it racist and xenophobic when the OP suggests that my daughter should not be entitled to British citizenship simply because her father happens to have been born in another country. My daughter was born in the UK to a British mother. She has only ever lived in the UK. She only holds a British passport. This is her home. How dare anyone suggest that she should not have a right to British citizenship?

If you want to defend this kind of shit, then by all means, go ahead. You will not cover yourself in any glory.

What immigration system would you like to see?

One which is designed by reasonable and rational people rather than rabid racists.

ChunkyMonkey36 · 14/06/2026 21:21

How far back does the “father born in this country” go?

I ask because my grandparents were born in the ROI. Does my mum just have to leave, or do her 3 kids and 6 grandkids have to go with her?

We’re going to be a rather empty country if we start backdating that rule.

Thanks, you're absolutely right! I was conflating the requirements for gaining citizenship through naturalisation (must prove competence in English, Gaelic, or Welsh) with the visa regime(s).
