Petition for Wealth Tax on richest multi-millionaires to billionaires

Sign this petition for a wealth tax to fund the NHS and Schools! With rising costs, rising energy bills and much more issues we need the Labour government to tax the rich instead of cutting services like the tories. Just a 1% wealth tax could raise £60 Billion! JUST 1% (Currently the rich pay 0% wealth tax)

Petition: Commission a Treasury Review On The Practicalities Of Levying A Wealth Tax.

We believe the government should study the practicalities of a tax on wealth. This should include studying wealth taxes internationally and the work of think tanks, to consider appropriate thresholds and percentages. This could also consider an exit ta...

Yes definitely punish the job creators and innovators even more as that usually ends well.

No! Not those "rich" people. Tax the billionaires like the Duke of Westminster who makes 5 million a week passive income! Inherited 9 billion in assets from his father. Don't tax work, TAX WEALTH.

Bumpitybumper · 18/03/2025 12:02

This is a red herring and won't work! It's like Labour harping on about taxing private schools before the election. Of course it's going to be popular with the masses as it seems an easy way to raise money without impacting them but we need to consider if a policy is practicable. Who on earth would stay in a country where income tax is already high and your wealth was simultaneously being eroded at quite a high level each year? 1% mean seem low but consider the compound impact of this.

We need to get real. The wider population needs to pay for the things they want and use. There are no magic money trees or super rich people that are going to hang around and pay extortionate taxes when other counties are begging them to relocate already.

MidnightMeltdown · 18/03/2025 12:16

If it were that simple it would have been done already. They need to sort out the welfare budget which is currently a complete piss take. All these people rinsing the system for personal gain are taking money that should be directed towards our public services for the benefit of everyone.

The rich currently own the house prices in England and have already upped sticks by moving to the camen islands (apologies for spelling) and having Swiss bank accounts to stop them from paying taxes. They are NOT paying their equal share. After WW2 inequality was on the decrease in this country and many working class people were able to buy a house with reasonable mortgages, now you ge

this is just wrong and shows a complete lack of knowledge about the UK tax system.

@MantleStatue

Everyone thinks a fair tax is one someone else has to pay.

Nail on the head.

Yeah, except its not true. Inheritance tax, for example, even at the very low numbers who have to pay this, I will be affected by this. I actually think it's the fairest tax we have and think it should be massively raised even though I will have to pay hundreds of thousands of pounds, as will my children when I die. Plenty of super rich say they should be taxed more (plenty do everything they can to avoid paying anything as well).

I see. Can you explain why it's wrong?

I think your view is very much a minority view. Those who genuinely think they should pay more are always at liberty to donate money to the government. I would actually wager that the majority of those that feel a social obligation to pay more though probably prefer to donate to a charity that aligns with their own beliefs.

The old saying 'turkeys don't vote for Christmas' is very apt here.
