Paedophiles can come off the sex offenders register

Did you know convicted sex offenders can apply to have their names removed from the sex offenders register??

Removal from the SOR means that offenders are no longer managed by police forces meaning they can and often do, reoffend.

The effects of sexual abuse on a child are profound, devastating and almost impossible to quantify.

Effects are far reaching; from emotional, psychological, neurological, physiological and physical. The effects are carried into adulthood and impact on every aspect of a victim’s life.

For the child, their whole understanding of life is catastrophically affected from the moment they are violated by an adult or older child. Their understanding of what constitutes a loving and safe relationship becomes damaged and their world becomes unclear and difficult to navigate.

They may become withdrawn, subdued, angry, or develop neurological symptoms such as mutism and body tics. They may become aggressive, have issues with sleeping, bed wetting, become clingy and dislike activities that they once enjoyed. They are often hyper-vigilant, unable to manage stress and develop new fears. They may begin to complain of illness which cannot be treated or explained.

As they become overwhelmed by the stress, their ability to concentrate and focus affects their ability to learn leading to lower outcomes for them in the long term.

They may display hyper sexualisation or inappropriate sexual behaviour for their age. They may seek out other sexual experiences with their peers or other adults.

They may see that their compliance gains them privileges allowing them to feel worthy and more grown up.

Children who are subject to this type of abuse have difficulty making and maintaining friendships as their peers are developing age appropriately which is in conflict with the emotional development of the child being abused.

Victims face an increased risk of mental health issues in adulthood. In a 1999 study, it was reported that positive mediation and intervention post-abuse had a significant impact on victim’s long term mental health and well-being. (Saunders, Kilpatrick, Hanson, Resnick, & Walker, 1999)

However, this is reliant on the victim reporting the incident within a short period of time. Often, children are so traumatised by the violation that they cannot and do not have the language or the understanding to tell anyone. It is often the case the the child doesn’t speak up until they are much older and potentially more incidences of abuse have occurred further deepening the damage.

Paedophiles CANNOT be rehabilitated.

What is staggeringly high? What are the reasons given? Genuinely interested

Success rates are different between police forces but an indefinite inclusion on the register should mean indefinite.

@Wauwa That was until two sex offenders went to the European Court of Human Rights and pleaded that an indefinite inclusion was an infringement on their human rights.

Whaaaat ?!

That's totally effing barmey.

Paedophilia isn't something you can be cured of. It's a sexual preference.

I despair.

Aphrathestorm · 07/03/2023 08:51

I agree that sex offender registration should be lifelong. But it's not.

They only get put on it for a couple of years.

The world just isn't safe.

Not all petite on that register are sex offenders.

My ASD son was arrested at 18. King story short he's been groomed online to believe he was a trans furry from early teenage years and I had zero idea about the grooming. I just knew he loved anime . At are 18 the police raided our house they found images on his pc. The vast majority were hentaii porn ( boak) and as hentaii features young people in school uniforms ( not allowed to portray children so apparently they make young looking adults and put them in school clothes) and animals/hybrids it's classed as beastiality and child abuse. My son got a 10 year sexual harm prevention order, that is specifically to undertake courses with probation etc to deal with his porn addiction, examine why he did it etc and make sure he doesn't do it again. He has never hurt anybody. He isn't sexually attracted to children, he's a gay man that has been groomed as a child and is doing his very best to fix this. He (we)pays for private pyscotherapy once a week and he spends 12 hours a week working with probation. After 5 years of therapy, if hood psychotherapist, dr and probation are happy to support him and help apply to remove him from the sex offenders register then I will be glad and hope that awful, hideous part of our life is over for every.

But should they let my violent ex off the register? The one that raped me, made me sleep in the garden at 40 weeks pregnant and then raped a 14 yo school girl? Absolutely not.

I think it very much matters on the type of crime, they age and the background. My son is desperately sorry for what he's done not only legally but to our family . It's almost destroyed us. And I hope that he DOES do all the work to get off the register.

glasshole · 07/03/2023 09:33

Also to add, my son can't get a job. Nobody, NOBODY will hire him as he is in the sex offenders register. So he's costing the tax payer money for UC, PIP etc. He is an excellent driver and we are hoping to find funding for a HGV course in our area but trying to find an employer is a whole other ball game. The system can't claim to be able to rehabilitate him in one breath AND leave him long term unemployed too. That's not fair on him or the tax payer.

I just read about what happened to your son. I am so sorry. That child confusing and grooming with furries etc is pure evil. I actually think it has to be called that.
I agree that given what he did he should have another chance.

There is a Canadian man who says he is a woman who draws cartoons promoting gender ideology and has a speciality in drawing babies in nappies ( modelled from photos of real babies) crossed with puppies. This person is advertised at an event here and it doesn’t seem to be illegal or count as bestiality plus child abuse, just a kink as it doesn’t show porn. That is grooming imo.(See screen shot.)

Would you consider putting it on the current Drag Queen for babies thread? It relates to the thinking behind parents thinking this is all great, the sane one who take them to Pride events and gave them stroke furries.

What happened to you with your ex-husband is terrible too, and I am very sorry 💐💐💐

Sadly the man who abused me (and others) was only on the sex offenders register for 5yrs !!! Despite being found guilty of multiple charges and no prison time :(:(

Minierme · 26/04/2023 16:25

I think it’s important to remember that not everyone on the sex offenders register is a paedophile. I know of a teen boy who was out on sex offenders register for exposing themselves thinking they were being funny. It was wrong and not at all funny, but that doesn’t mean at 30 they still need to be on it.

This is why I think it should be reviewed more, both for those whose offences genuinely don’t pose a risk any more and to ensure people like this are kept on for longer. We need a more risk and victim centred approach.

Unless he served more than 30 months in prison as the petition suggests, he would be able to request his name removed from the register. Just like the bloke who ducked the bicycle and the one the hoover. And countless others who haven’t committed rape.

Im so sorry that you had to go through the ordeal of the crime and the court process. Seeing them go free is more abuse of their victims.
