Myanmar: AIBU to ask you to help to keep the pressure on the Military Junta?

PLEASE SUPPORT:

Hundreds of thousands will again risk their safety to take to Myanmar's streets today, in a country with a tragic history of brutal military repression. At the same time, potentially millions are participating in a nationwide strike today.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

  1. Email Dominic Raab or your own MP to apply pressure, it takes a few seconds via this site:

  1. Donate!

Doctors, teachers and other public servants are risking their livelihoods to participate in a non-violent civil disobedience campaign. I believe this campaign has the potential to bring the military government to a standstill. But it will only last as long as those participating have food on the table. Teachers in Myanmar earn $10 a day, and those participating will soon lose even this. The link above is with organisations I know and trust, who have experience delivering cash and food funding to those who need it most.

  2. Observe!

As protests build today and tomorrow it is likely the internet will again be switched off. I fear that at some point the strength of protests will cross a red line for the military and as in 2007 and 1988 they will start shooting. It's vital international observers follow live feeds to maintain accountability against this. Myanmar Now have (somehow!) continued to stream live despite the internet shutdowns.

I'm sorry OP but spamming for petitions and donations isn't allowed on the main boards. There's a petition and activism section where you can post this. Best of luck!

Mingalabar · 15/02/2021 13:37

I'll let MN be the judge of that thanks.

I'm trying to keep what is likely to evolve into mass detentions, torture or worse into the public eye. I have family and friends (some detained already) living in fear over there and suddenly you're the Internet police.

Copied from Facebook:

DAY 13 + 28 Days After The Military Coup:

A pregnant woman was shot dead point blank in the head in Mandalay today. She was harboring 20 protesters in her home who were hiding from the police. What compels a human being to kill an expecting mother is beyond me. May her Soul Rest In Peace.

More than 70 peaceful protestors were killed yesterday. Today more troops are rolling into the City of Yangon from the Direction of Rakhine state.

Please, please, please can I beg Mumsnetters to lobby their MPs and keep these poor, poor people in the news - easily completed, pro forma letters that automatically reach your MP

The Burmese military are about to cut off all Internet and mobile networks to help them carry on the slaughter unchecked.

Is anyone actually reading this? Women (pregnant or not) children, men, doctors, mums and monks are being shot in the street with high powered military weapons. Reports of sexual violence are increasing along with torture. The same troops that committed genocide against the Rohingya are now on their way into Yangon turning on more of their own people.

A concise and accurate analysis and overview of the situation by Thant Myint Oo, his Grandfather was a Secretary General of the UN (back when they had some clout):

Statement by Ambassadors to Myanmar on Regime's Brutal Crackdowns

March 19, 2021
The brutal violence against unarmed civilians by the security forces in Hlaing Tharyar and elsewhere in Myanmar, often under the cover of darkness, is immoral and indefensible. We call on Myanmar’s military to cease all violence against people of Myanmar, release all detainees, lift martial law and the nationwide state of emergency, remove telecommunications restrictions, and restore the democratically elected government. We support the right of the people of Myanmar to protest peacefully and support their right to freely access information. Internet blackouts and the suppression of the media will not hide the military’s abhorrent actions.
Signed by the Ambassadors to Myanmar from the Delegation of the EU and European Union Member States with presence in Myanmar: Denmark, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden; the United Kingdom; and the United States.

Please read this and give your support. The people are being massacred - rocket propelled grenades being launched into houses, children shot in the street, funerals attacked, bodies used as bait for snipers.

Mingalaba please update us on what we can do apart from the above. What is happening is tragic and I am getting no news from contact I presume at high levels there is some pressure, but the ambassador seemed to think only if it came from China would there be any change.
