I realise that this is a contentious and very difficult issue but just in case it is of interest to anyone, I came across this petition asking the govt to close all education settings for 2 weeks.

It's a very fast growing petition that one. Whatever your thoughts probably a good idea to ask @MNHQ to put it in the petitions section.

Thanks - I didn’t realise there was a specific section. Perhaps it’s already been posted there? @MNHQ - could you move this thread to the right place? Thank you!

This one for tier 4 only has already reached required numbers. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/564209

Tier 4 I can understand but our area is 200/100k at the moment and whilst I can probably swing some annual leave at some point if the schools close this week I am stuffed as I have a trial in 10 days. Our rate is similar to last term so I am not sure what has changed since then. I think the closures need to be more dynamic than shutting down everyone when schools have just been off for 2 weeks.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 02/01/2021 18:22

Thanks I've signed. Tier 3

Interesting... we’re tier 4 and our numbers are far less than yours. Around 65 per 100k.
WhoLettheCatOut · 03/01/2021 03:47

That's a lot less than us! I've looked at the tier 4 places I used to live in and they're very high so I am really surprised at some tier 4 areas being so low.

We have been tier 3 throughout and now tier 4. Our numbers have never gone as high as 200 per 100k. It’s the curse of being a small rural town in the midlands whose nearest city (by near I mean 45 mins away) has been badly hit throughout. The cases have never made it as far out as us though!
notevenat20 · 03/01/2021 08:19

It's almost completely irrelevant. Infection rates are going through the roof independent of schools. The only thing that will make a difference is if we can vaccinate at speed. We need 2 million vaccinated a week and petitions demanding this rate now.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/01/2021 08:21

We're also tier 4 and our rates are less than 200. Even the main cities near me (Nottingham and Derby) are less than 300. I think a lot of places are tier 4 for precautionary reasons.

WellFiddleMyDiddlyDee · 03/01/2021 08:25

My school is opening in Tier 4 at around 500 infections per 100,000.

MistletoeandGin · 03/01/2021 08:26

We’re not too far from you @Waxonwaxoff0
