Require the NHS to provide single-sex psychiatric wards including intake wards

Hello, there's a new Parliamentary petition up.

People in psychiatric wards are likely to be quite vulnerable, and this is especially true for women, who may already have a history of abuse and trauma. If placed in a mixed-sex ward, there is a risk of sexual assault or general lack of feeling safe which can aggravate their conditions.

Signed. We're lucky at the trust I work at in the north west there are not only separate m and f wards but separate buildings of wards with their own outdoors area.

Jw depressing that this is needed at all though, its long been known how bad mixed sex areas are for women, especially health based, and even moreso mental health!

"Significant investment would be needed to change all inpatient provision to single-sex wards and remove all shared rooms. It might also reduce flexibility of overall bed provision, meaning that more people would be admitted to wards a long way from their home areas which can also lead to increased clinical risk. Also, those we consulted with told us that it is harder to recruit staff to work on single-sex wards." Sept 2018

And the impact on not doing it on women's people's health and long term outcomes?
