A Level Results - Downgrades
cmanni · 15/08/2020 13:34
Thousands of students have been downgraded due the shambolic system that favours an algorithm rather that profession teacher assessments. Large comprehensive schools are disadvantaged over private schools. So unfair.
My daughter was downgraded from AAA to ABB - and the appeal process is a sham.

This a difficult one.
Just looking at the top grades, CAG predictions were way over previous years actual results. If left to stand, those that took Alevel in the years before and years after would be disadvantaged compare to this years cohort. At best teachers, in general, are not trained A level examiners and cant predict the correct grades accurately and at worst some were trying to game the system.
The only fair way would be to sit the exams in October and get real results.

Afternoon, @cmanni - we're just bobbing on here to say that we've moved your thread over to our Petitions and Activism topic, which is the only place where we allow folk to post about petitions. We've removed a fair few of your posts on other threads, we're afraid, but we're happy for this thread to stay here.
Hope that explains things but do let us know if you have any questions.

Hi LondonMischief
To some extent I agree but she got A* AA in her mocks so the teachers have very strong evidence to go on and actually 2 of her subject teachers are examiners as well as teachers. Her friends at a local small private school were not subject to the algorithm as their cohorts are too small so they were awarded their CAGs with no moderation. This is where the total unfairness comes in. All students should be judged by the same criteria otherwise the results are meaningless. These students will never accept their results, quite rightly, when the system favours some over others.

Hi cmanni
Of course I didn’t mean your DS, but the cohort in general. No doubt there will be winners and losers.
And yes there fairest system would be the one where everyone is judged with the same criteria, which would be sitting the same exam.
My DD is in Y10 but in her school the mocks were marked by peers and some were taken in free periods, so nothing approaching exam conditions.
Your DD should be able to appeal her grade and use her mocks hopefully, or take the exam.
