I don't know if we're allowed to share petitions, but I thought peeps might be interested in this one. www.change.org/p/bodyshop-don-t-call-us-menstruators

Went to sign it and it’s gone. Do I now need to add change.org to the list of orgs to avoid?

Sexnotgender · 21/06/2020 08:51

Fuck sake. So now we can’t even protest this bullshit?

okiedokieme · 21/06/2020 09:01

@LorenzoVonMatterhorn

That sketch was great.

I'm all for inclusion but this gets me riled. I'm menopausal, by their definition that sets me apart WTF

I have a trans relative, trans friends - I really have no issues with what adults choose or feel they need to do but I'm a woman! Use that word!

User1775836552 · 21/06/2020 10:00

I am raging and sad that the petition was removed, does anyone know why?

Z0rr0 · 21/06/2020 11:46

I just came to post that the petition had been pulled by Change but I see it's already been noted. The woman who started the petition said she was told it has now been removed by Change for “violating the terms + conditions”.
Not the first time Change have done that following complaints. Infuriating. She had over 3000 signatories. Sad

It makes you want to fight more really when their response is to try and shut us down

ErrolTheDragon · 21/06/2020 12:40

Z0rr0 - do you know if she was given any indication of what exactly the 'violation' was? And is there any chance you could get a copy of the text of the petition?

mum2jakie · 21/06/2020 12:40

And here we are - freedom of speech lost. Women being silenced and written out of existence...

TornadoOfSouls · 21/06/2020 14:05

What about those of us who donated to Change to advertise the petition? Angry

Z0rr0 · 21/06/2020 15:49

OMG @TornadoOfSouls that's awful! I hope you get your money back.

I think they just said about the Ts&Cs @ErrolTheDragon. I don't know Jade, just ended up following her because of the petition.

I'll see about getting a copy of the text.

I'd love to see the wording of the original petition and given that Change day they're committed to free speech, leanr how the petition violated their terms and conditions.

ginghamstarfish · 21/06/2020 17:47

Instead we could all let bodyshop know what we think about it - every day - on twitter, fb etc? I have already done so.

Tonz · 22/06/2020 07:30

Yes I will be... Every single day and so will my friends. They've lost a lot of customers

TheChampagneGalop · 22/06/2020 09:36

Do we need to make a fucking peitition for petition site Change.org to stop silencing women Hmm

Anyway, I'm telling my friends and family about The Body shop's misogyny.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/06/2020 10:18

Do we need to make a fucking peitition for petition site Change.org to stop silencing women

It looks like that might be the case.

TheChampagneGalop · 22/06/2020 10:47

Anyone know if thepetitionsite.com is a good alternative to Change.org?

Z0rr0 · 22/06/2020 10:50

Body Shop have tweeted today that they're opening some shops. Quite a lot of women jumping on that tweet...

OP posts:
Z0rr0 · 22/06/2020 11:41

Just did a search for 'bodyshop' on Twitter and it's actually really heartening to see the number of women tweeting about avoiding their shops and products, being angry about their website and their inappropriate tweet to JKR and sharing other cosmetics recommendations with each other.

OP posts:
Menaimum · 22/06/2020 11:57

If you search in the change site "body shop menstruators" you'll find a statement about removing it. Of course they say it's transphobic. Of course they do.

Signed the new one. Thank you

Coffeeandbeans · 22/06/2020 12:16

Signed.

Menaimum · 22/06/2020 13:30

Thanks for the heads-up on new one. Signed it.

Z0rr0 · 22/06/2020 13:35

Thanks for tracking the thread down. I realised we'd been moved from FWR.
I messaged Jade and she said this is what she wrote in the petition:

J.K. Rowling responded to an article by Devex which described women as “menstruators” by sarcastically pointing out that “there used to be a word for those people”.

What followed her tweet was a sickening level of abuse and death threats from extremist trans activists directed towards JKR and any “TERFS” who defended her.

JKR released a lengthy and hearty explanation for her concern over the eradication of the word “women” in a website blog post called “TERF WARS”. In this post, she revealed how being a woman has shaped her life in many ways—partly due to a serious sexual assault she experienced on top of a domestic abusive marriage.

After JKRs post, the BodyShop cruelly taunted her by publically suggesting she read a Trans Rights magazine. Not only was this insensitive, ill-timed and wreaking of a company hijacking a movement in order to get some “woke” brownie points.. It showed what happens when women try to talk about their opposing views. Instead of them being discussed and debated, they are abused, silenced, suspended, sacked, threatened and blamed for causing trans suicides.

Women exist and have been historically oppressed for years because of their reproductive capacities. But because trans ideology is fundamentally sex-denialist, women are being demonised for asserting their right to name the axis of their own oppression.

Many women feel their lives have been shaped BY their sex. Women who have been raped werent raped because they identified as female...they were raped because they were born female. Their experiences are valid and it’s wrong to tell them they aren’t because you don’t understand them or because women’s rights don’t seem to be a matter of importance right now. Woman make up 51% of the population and should be able speak about their lives, bodies, rights, and realities free from abuse and threats of violence. To not support this right is misogyny. It’s not hate to say that women exist and experience many things because of their sex. It is not transphobic to acknowledge that menstruation and pregnancy are not "gender neutral" experiences.

We are asking that the BodyShop to publically apologise to JKR for their cruel tweet to her. We are also asking the BodyShop and Devex to stop referring to women as “menstruators” immediately.
To be clear, when speaking of menstruation, please use the word “women”.

(We get that by addressing biology it seems that we’re inadvertently causing pain to some within the trans community....But by not addressing it, were causing pain to women including victims of FGM and many others).

She also told me:
This is pretty much it (the first half I had a screen shot of so that’s definite but the second part I had notes of but had changed slightly on the actual petition)...there might be a few words difference but that’s pretty much it.
She said she has asked for more clarification from Change about what specifically violated their Ts & Cs and also asked what happens to the money that people donated.
