It is being reported in the Observer that a recent government letter states that the UK govt has “no policy position on animal welfare” in its trade talks with the US, which opens the door to the import of low welfare meat. It also allows our farmers who currently have higher welfare standards to be undercut (if they don’t lower environmental and welfare standards to be able to compete).
We should be improving animal welfare and environmental standards, not going backwards!
