Hi All,

Today, I heard about a 13yr old girl who ended up in hospital because she used socks for her period - she couldn't afford sanitary products. This is not acceptable in the UK, but it's happening and it's happening in 2017.

Please can you sign this petition to eradicate period poverty from schools. Sanitary provision is NOT a luxury, and periods are not a choice.

It's just totally, totally wrong!!!

This petition to provide free sanitary products to girls from low income families was started by a 17yr old girl.

We should support her will to help other schoolgirls! It only takes 15 seconds to sign, I know because I just did it. Please share so we can change this appalling situation.

My uni have just started providing free sanpro in the bathrooms in the union building, they also sell products tax-free in the union shop. I do think it's awful that some people can't go to school because of this, why can't they just provide them free like contraception...it's not like periods are a choice

This is so sad.

We get free condoms handed out without even asking, why not sanpro, especially if it's impacting upon girls' education.

I found this article when I was looking for ways to help:

Right. Do you think I can use all the links tagged into the petition to pen my email to my Head/Board of Governors and also large companies?

Do any of you have any other links or sources of info that I can quote? I want to write something that cannot be refused.

NeverTooMuchCake · 12/04/2017 12:08

Yes, those links are all articles where this is problem is discussed in detail. Great idea to send to the Head and GB.
I will do the same.

The Trussell Trust has foodbanks all over the UK which can help girls who need sanpro. Chances are that if families go to a foodbank, they will struggle to allocate cash to sanpro.

A worthy cause and a desperately sad predicament for these girls.
I've shared and posted this petition on other threads.
