It's depressing how people love to hate and fear the unfamiliar.

I neither fear nor hate trans people thankyou. I do however have a major problem with the fact that policy is beginning to be dictated by the more extreme yet more vocal arm of the trans community. This is not transphobic and it is very much a stretch to suggest it is.

I do not loathe the unfamiliar, I do loathe the fact that people feel unable to voice their thoughts.

greengoth that's the entire point of the petition. Protections based on sex are being erased because sex and gender identity are being conflated. I am female . I don't have a gender identity. If I cut my hair and only ever wear trousers I am still female,

Biological sex is determined by chromosomes. This is scientific fact. You don't have to like it in order for it to be true. I don't like Donald Trump but he still undeniably exists.

Gender is an invented construct that exists only inside people's heads, and most certainly is not the basis for the long-term oppression of women throughout the course of human history.

Sorry to disappoint but I'm not willing engage with this discussion because I find too many aspects of it personally hurtful, and that makes it hard to be as kind and generous to others as I would like to. I've stated my opinion and you can decide to make of it what you will.

I am a woman. I have given birth, my pelvic floor is knackered and I'm doubled up with menstrual cramps. My biology determines these things. The only phobia I've got is about thunderstorms but I can't remember the name for that.
What is the name of the phobia for chip on the shoulder because that's growing.

The petition is not intended to be hurtful; its serious purpose is to avert well-meaning but ill-considered legislation being blundered into. Legislation which will lead to real harm.

The entire point of this is to keep the differences between sex and gender, not to confuse the two as they are different things? Sex is a fact, gender is a feeling. 'Gender' is not connected with sex..if you are arguing that it is then you are transphobic yourself?

Actually, and possibly surprisingly I agree with a great deal of this petition. But I won't be signing it as it has a rather nasty undertow to it that I have no desire to be associated with.

Why do you need to understand my thinking? I'm not convinced that I need to justify my thoughts. I do agree with a great deal of the premise of the petition, but I don't think that I could align myself with the basic beliefs of the originators of it. Therefore I will not sign it.
