I'm not a fan of referenda, I've voted in 6 & none resolved the issue. However I do support votes for 16/17 year olds. They are old enough to under the implications of a decision. Unfortunately a re-run is extremely unlikely so the petitions are more about making a point.

The thing is that when you're a grown up, you have to live with a LOT of election results thatyou seriously dislike. Election results that are depressing, that you think will cause all sorts of horrible outcomes and disasters. You HAVE to respect the democratic decision, whichever side of the result you're on.

If the 18-21 vote was low what's the point in extending it down to 16 . If it was high you might have a point ......but it wasn't and hasn't been.

Why are so many people certain that 16 and 17 year olds would vote remain even if they had the vote? Maybe they would in the SE and London.

In large areas of the north and the shire counties this age group will feel the same as older voters. They have grown up in areas were much less is spent per head on education. They see their communities really struggle.
There are no signs saying 'This was provided by EU funding' because nothing is.

What does Nigel Farage have to do with it? He isn't an MP and was not connected to the official Leave campaign. He is in no position to spread misinformation about how the government will/won't use the budget after the 2-year leave period is up.

The 1992 Maastricht Treaty, when Major was PM and in which Juncker played a significant part, brought in freedom of movement of all people, rather than the free movement of workers i.e. people who had a job to come to. So yes, there should be an Australian type points system for economic migrants.

The older generation will have a more immediate concern of leaving than the younger generation as its their pension pots that are being affected now.

Many is the time that the party I voted for didn't get into power. Not once have I called for another general election.

Hear hear. We have the opportunity to shape our own country, and influence our laws, so let's get on with it. If everyone picked just one thing they'd like the government to consider (e.g. NHS funding, workers rights etc) and wrote to their MP about it, it would be a good lot of democracy going on.

And George Osborne originally said the immediate result of a leave vote would be an emergency "punishment budget" which he now claims isn't necessary at all,

Can’t believe I’m defending George Osborne but he has only revised the timing, not his proposal. On 15/6/16 he said he would aim to introduce emergency measures within a couple of months of a Leave vote to fill a permanent & structural blackhole in public finances of £30bn predicted by the IFS. Yesterday he announced the Emergency Budget will be delayed until a new Prime Minister is in place this autumn. The figures may be revised but the core principal for tax rises & cuts in public spending is still on the agenda.
