PSHE and prevention of social problems rather than current reactionary systems

While there are many services available to respond to social problems, there is little talk of prevention. Therapists do great work helping people to deal with depression, domestic abuse and in the rehabilitation of rapists but we are advanced enough now to focus resources on prevention. I have started a petition for the promotion of Personal, Social, Health & Economic (PSHE) education. Please imagine the diverse social problems that could be impacted. Please sign and share the petition:

Did you read the petition before commenting? Here's a paragraph you might have missed.

"PSHE is currently compulsory up to Key Stage 3 but there is no requirement as to how much is provided. The extreme pressure on teachers to push exam results up league tables, with pay now reliant on exam success, forces them to focus on their subject specialism. Though lots of excellent PSHE is being delivered by teachers across the country, PSHE is given low status by government so the current requirement can be met by 10 minute discussions in registration or a PSHE day once a year. There is no requirement to provide PSHE for pupils beyond 14 years of age."

All the secondary schools in my area have a "resilence" programme where they try to teach children coping techniques to safeguard their mental health.

At the moment developing such programmes is being researched and there is no point in rolling out such a programme countrywide unless you have evidence that it is going to work. There used to be a programm called "Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning" (SEAL) which was prematurely rolled out across the country. It was found to be a total utter waste of time.

The timetable for secondary school children is already very tight. PHSCE needs to be able to justify itself on the timetable.
