Dear all
there's a petition on government site. Have a look sign if you agree and share.

I don't mind paying taxes for the young generation. ..

romlish · 14/02/2014 16:48

That's silly so u think the youngsters in other countries can't find work..or stay at home and claim benefits...or stay at home separate from the fathers of their child so they can get benefits???? Wait...this is England now..is it not?

HermioneWeasley · 14/02/2014 16:49

I would rather child care was subsidised than more mat pay.

Mojang · 14/02/2014 16:49

"taxes for the new generation"?

What evidence is there that extended ml helps the children anyway? It's farcmore about the mother's wants and "rights" than it is about the babies.

Fine if you want extended leave, work and save to pay for it, if not its a luxury you can't afford.

However, I wouldnt support it regardless of cost as I really do think, taken too far and being just for mothers (as opposed to shared parental leave) it would badly damage the career projects of girlswomen

Child care would be an answer but if you chose to stay at home and look after your baby...the most important first year...all eu countries believe that's where the bond begins.so?

romlish · 14/02/2014 16:56

So mojan..tell if i dont work and have a baby..is ok for me to get 10k when the baby's born..or I'll split up from daddy..and I'll get even more help..that'll be ok ,no?

Lj8893 · 14/02/2014 17:02

I think its very generous what we get already. Your pregnant for 9 months, surely once you find out you are pregnant and decide to take a period of maternity leave then you would save during your pregnancy to go towards your smp? That's what I did. And if my pregnancy was planned (it wasent) I would have been saving whilst ttc. Why should women who choose not to have dc, or can't have dc pay higher taxes to subsidise those that do/can.

Scrooge of Europe?! Yeap...dam right and proud of it...never mind I'll stop working before i give birth and ill get my 10k..

Mojang · 14/02/2014 17:16

So, you're trying to turn an intelligent discussion into a benefits bashing thread? Sorry, I'm not playing.

romlish · 14/02/2014 17:53

Glad you are not. The point was to open your eyes and think if you can agree with what is this government got to offer? If you are lazy if you dont work ..you'll get all the help you want but god forbid you ask for help if you're working ..tut tut..how dare you? You should afford to have kids..it's besides the point if one gets help for having kids when not working the other should as well ..dont punish the working class
