wrongmove.org

It allows you to see if there's likely to be fracking under your house in the future and to put a legal block on it happening.

Thanks.

My house turns out to be one of them Sad

specialsubject · 17/01/2014 18:24

fine - but suggestions welcome how we keep the lights on.

coal stations being turned off because of the EU (doesn't bother the Chinese..)
nuclear not being developed because of Joe Public's daft perception of risk
wind doesn't work in the UK.
solar not happening for reasons I don't understand.

ideas?

Pooka · 17/01/2014 18:28

How odd. My postcode comes up as being potential shale site.

I live in Bromley. South east London. Wall to wall terraces and semis as far as the eye can see.

How would they do it under suburban London? Confused.

BohemianGirl · 17/01/2014 18:31

It wont stop fracking - its a petition.

BohemianGirl · 17/01/2014 18:33

Mine comes up - Bexley - again rather like Bromley but with smaller gardens!!!

YouTheCat · 17/01/2014 18:34

Can I call bullshit?

My house is in the middle of a heavily built up city. There is no way there would be fracking.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/01/2014 18:34

Am I been cynical but just wondering if anyone will be told by the website that their house doesn't have potential to be fracked?

NotQuiteCockney · 17/01/2014 18:36

I'm in zone 2. It came up as 'you could be fracked'. Hmm

So then I tried the address of St Paul's Cathedral. Yes, also at risk of being tracked. Riiiight. With the Thames right there, and, you know, the history and all.

So I call shenanigans.

hootloop · 17/01/2014 18:37

I call bullshit too, I have just tried 5 postcodes in 5 different areas and surprise surprise they are all at risk.

MrsWilliamBodie · 17/01/2014 18:38

My postcode is coming up as not on the list of those to be fracked.

Buckingham Palace does though.

VonNeurosis · 17/01/2014 18:38

The little greenpeace logo in the corner should give away this is nothing but an attempt at viral publicity.

Two minutes of googleing suggests that the rights to the mines and minerals below a property are still owned by the crown www.bgs.ac.uk/mineralsuk/planning/legislation/mineralOwnership.html.

IneedAsockamnesty · 17/01/2014 18:39

Looks like cracking is going to happen right underneath Buckingham palace

hootloop · 17/01/2014 18:40

Under 10 Downing Street too ...

MrsPnut · 17/01/2014 18:40

My postcode comes up as being at risk of being fracked - I live on the edge of a big cliff ridge that runs down the eastern side of the country.

I know there is no chance of them fracking here because the cliff would be at risk of collapsing into the the Trent Valley.

Divinity · 17/01/2014 18:40

Has anyone found a postcode that doesn't come up as "bad news" on this website?

Divinity · 17/01/2014 18:41

On dear Sockreturning the Queen will not be pleased.

IneedAsockamnesty · 17/01/2014 18:42

Is it even possible to do it under Baker Street tube station?

IneedAsockamnesty · 17/01/2014 18:43

Or wookey hole

AllDirections · 17/01/2014 18:44

It says that my house is unlikely to be fracked. I'm metres away from the sea so maybe it's because of that.

fishybits · 17/01/2014 18:45

Utter bollocks

I've just tapped postcode of areas I know would not be suitable for fracking and guess what....

elizadofuckall · 17/01/2014 18:46

Mine says "Good news, it’s unlikely your home will be fracked,
but you can still tell David Cameron that the UK is Not for Shale."

NoraRobertsismyguiltypleasure · 17/01/2014 18:46

Regardless of those points at least if you don't want fracking in your area you're making it known. Having watched the film about Fracking in America (can't remember the name) I would be horrified if it was going on anywhere near me.
As for keeping the lights on - Governments really need to start pressurising companies to be putting their money into the development of renewable energy. Even if Fracking went ahead all over the UK, eventually it will run out in the same way oil and coal will run out. Just because it's not going to happen in our lifetime doesn't make it less important.

HicDraconis · 17/01/2014 18:46

If you reduce the map to show all of the UK, the "at risk area" extends across England. Seemingly safe areas are Cornwall, Wales, East Anglia and Scotland with a belt of "At risk" land across Edinburgh.

I'm not sure how reliable this map is for determining whether you are at risk of being fracked over (or under).

StatisticallyChallenged · 17/01/2014 18:47

Central Edinburgh, smack bank in the conservation and world heritage site, effectively part way up a ruddy steep valley...at risk of fracking

I call bullshit

RandyRudolf · 17/01/2014 18:48

It's a mailing list disguised as a website.
