Ban Looped Blind Cords in the UK - Sophia's Cause

Just saw this in the Daily Mail on Facebook and had to post it here. I feel so helpless to that poor family, but thought if I could post it here and get a few more signatures then that would be good.

Fantastic safety devices for blind cords in John Lewis.. I really rate and recommend these. Worth every penny.

Yes what a heart wrenching story, although I thought everyone knew they were dangerous. Really hope they are banned. Apparently there is a safety feature availible.

My heart honestly goes out to parents. Cannot Imagine the pain. Ugh my eyes have tears for her.

Cheaper safety device alternative also very easy to fit.

P.S. have signed the petition, obviously. I feel very strongly about this issue.

I remain appalled that when we moved into our house with our (then) 1yo DC1, two separate blind companies (one was Hillary's) took thousands of pounds off us and both fitted blinds with dangerous trailing cords.

At the time I was ignorant of the issue but became aware soon afterwards and then invested in some of the devices I've linked to above.

You may be able to apply for free blind cleats through the above link. Blind cleats are great, but my issue with them is that they require drilling. Mine sat unopened for months because of this, and I think that the other safety devices I've linked to are more effective because they are easy to fit.

Of course, the cords should be fitted with safety devices and break points in the first place!!!!!

These parents and their followers should join the campaign already running to raise awareness of the dangers of untethered blind cords.
Tragically, calling for a ban is only a desperate and understandable, but ultimately unsuccessful, attempt to shift their guilt feelings to somewhere else. They need counselling and other parents need to be made more aware of the dangers, while pressure is brought to bear on manufacturers to make these blinds fail-safe. There are some with plastic chain-link cords, these break easily when used robustly.
