I am sorry gingerkirsty but I have always called it as I see it. Unwaivering honesty - I put my hand up to it.

hmc · 16/05/2010 00:40

Actually the Nazis was a bit naughty [blush, I got carried away and was on a roll!

hmc · 16/05/2010 00:40

or

Cogitoergosum · 16/05/2010 00:42

Soooo, 10% of the population is dyslexic. 82% of statistics are made up, and 8% of the UK are pedants.

Funny old world.

hmc · 16/05/2010 00:45

Cogitoergosum - if it makes you feel better to try the 'statistics and damn lies' route, go for it. Essentially though - you attitudes are prejudiced towards people with disabilities. Fine, if you are happy with that

hmc · 16/05/2010 00:48

Now that I can type rationally rather than being carried away on a wave of emotion (it did feel good though, I had been bottling that up for ages) I'd like to continue this discussion, however, it has also occurred to me that it is nearly one o clock in the morning!

Joolyjoolyjoo · 16/05/2010 00:48

My mum was an English teacher and so this was drummed into me fairly early.

It's sadly a moot point nowadays anyway, surely, since the correct spelling of BOTH versions is now "ur", is it not?

Monty100 · 16/05/2010 00:49

hmc - yes it was a bit naughty.

Nobody's perfect.

Also, the pull on here (I come on here from time to time) is at ourselves for getting so irate.

There's loads of threads on here that in some ways may offend others. I'm a lone parent, can't stand all the stuff that are negative towards that for example....... we could go on all night.

I'm just trying to support you here as I can understand your grievance, but I thought you steamed in a bit and nothing here is meant to offend.

Cogitoergosum · 16/05/2010 00:51

I get that you're on a mission here. I've done the same myself in the past but I came to the conclusion a while back that this was very true.

Since this realisation, most things of what I read is just stuff and nonsense

hmc · 16/05/2010 00:51

Monty - you are lovely. Okay - am backing off. Will probably feel a bit penitential in the morning!

hmc · 16/05/2010 00:52

If you see me on here again tell me to GO AWAY!

Monty100 · 16/05/2010 00:56

hmc - if I see you on other threads I'll 'wave'. If I see you on here i'll go .

Take care of you and dc.

NN xx

whomovedmychocolate · 16/05/2010 06:53

hmc - what an attention seeking post. I'm sorry you have a child with dyslexia but gosh what an ego you have. Mumsnet is a big place. Why don't you find yourself another topic instead of calling people nazis.

"I invoke Godwin's Law. I win."

Doesn't work like that here.

RockinSockBunnies · 16/05/2010 14:00

Surely whether dyslexic or not, someone can understand the difference between your and you're. Additionally, if someone is dyslexic, would that not add an incentive to double-check one's work to ensure that there are no errors?

Would it be wrong of me to print out the link and stick it on DD's wall ?

hmc · 16/05/2010 18:39

No RockinSockBunnies - they often can't tell the difference. Punctuation, spelling, discerning the difference between 'their' and 'there', your and you're, extremely difficult. That is why it is known as 'word blindness'! I would stick around to tell you about dyslexia if you were interested, but I am certain you are not.

As for trying a bit harder - I think you'll find most dsylexics work very hard at their writing - and still make errors....

Still, I don't think this is the thread to discuss it. Certainly not after my ..ahem....outburst last night. I just think that pedants should bear in mind that some people can't help their grammatical and spelling errors. I have to go anyway since I have an agreement with Monty that I won't post on these threads and get all emotive

As you were....

hmc · 16/05/2010 18:39

And if only it was as simple as double checking work, lol.

hmc · 16/05/2010 18:40

Sorry, really am going.

Monty100 · 16/05/2010 22:46

hmc - see you around .

I have to say I think there has been an unsympathetic tone from some posters here. I haven't got any direct experience of dyslexia but I would have expected a better tone on here.

I like Pedant's Corner, but I can see hmc's point.

As you were.

NetworkGuy · 18/05/2010 15:05

If someone knows they have a problem, then one solution is to get another person to check - if only for their own peace of mind - remember that if they don't and someone (eg a boss) spots a glaring error, it does no-one any good.

Better to acknowledge some problem than have the mickey taken behind their back. Awkward I know, but if someone has dyslexia, it cannot be helped, and avoiding writing signs for public consumption is hopefully possible without any embarrassment.
