What is this new word that I keep reading on MN?

wrt

So many posters type 'wrt'

I presume they mean 'with' but maybe they dont!
Maybe its some new fancy word that is unknown here in small town somewhere where I live

So is 'wrt' a frequent typing error or a new word?

with regard to - I've used it as an acronym for years!

skihorse · 02/02/2010 14:47

I've always thought it was "with respect to".

I was trying to figure out why I thought it was "with respect to" and I knew I'd picked it up during A-levels. It's a mathematical term.

totallydifferentypeofperson · 21/02/2010 22:37

I've always read it as "with reference to" but the meaning is the same.

SPBInDisguise · 22/02/2010 21:47

with respect to, definitely

monkeysavingexpertdotcom · 22/02/2010 21:48

"With reference to", I think.

SixtyFootDoll · 22/02/2010 21:49

with regard to

preggersplayspop · 22/02/2010 21:49

with respect to

GetOrfMoiLand · 22/02/2010 22:01

I use it all the time in work emails as well.

I think of is as meaning with reference to but referece, regard, respect, the essential meaning of the statement is broadly the same.

WebDude · 02/03/2010 09:29

with reference to

(usually in letter/ e-mail reply, perhaps noting that many items of correspondence have a Reference number)

However, the 'with respect to' meaning does come back, from when I did Additional Maths in the mid-70s, well before most had chance of e-mail.

TrillianAstra · 02/03/2010 09:36

With regards/respect/reference to - it all ends up meaning approximately the same thing anyway.

It's the sort of thing you might put in a business email, similar to the way email automatically gets 'Re:' at the front of a reply.
