Damning or damming?

Watching the BBC news at ten, last night, and the report into the Nimrod crash was accompanied by the subtitle 'Damming inquiry'
I said to DH "Surely that's wrong, there is a 'n' in damning"
He replied "I don't know" (why was I surprised?"
Isn't damming what beavers do to rivers?

A damming report would be a report on the progress of the construction of a dam. So there.

I was shocked by the BBC last night too - I half thought for a moment "Was it a report written by a Mr Damming?" But no, just illiteracy striking again...

I was -asleep- resting my eyes and I woke up and there was this spelling mistake.
If I can spot it in my half concious state then why didn't anyone at the BBC?

Damn is short for damnation, so unless the report was about correct construction of barriers across rivers to create reservoirs and artificial lakes, it was incorrect.
