If you have purchased something - you have bought it.

If you bring something along with you - you have brought it.

Why do people insist on using brought when they mean bought? FFS!!

Feel better now. Thanks

I knew that

bodycolder · 20/10/2009 16:09

drives me mad too.But not as much as our local papers fave 'chest of draws!!!'

tellnoone · 20/10/2009 16:09

The worst one I ever saw was on an ebay listing:

bort .... i.e. bought!

"I only bort it 18 months ago"

Ledodgy · 20/10/2009 16:10

Ive noticed it on here alot I think it's regional not sure where though.

Lotster · 20/10/2009 16:14

Makes me gnash my teeth too!

TheBlairSnitchProject · 20/10/2009 16:16

It was in the first line of a thread on here that I read just a few minutes ago! Couldn't answer the Op because I didn't trust myself not to mention it!

Glad it's not just me

It's quite a common mix up round here (Buckinghamshire) I tend to say "Really, where did you bring it from?" if I know the person well enough.

never hear it here (edinburgh), i think it's weird.. but i'm sur we have our own regional quirks..

'amn't i?' rather than 'aren't i?' springs to mind - i can never decide if that's scots dialect or just wrong.

CJCregg · 20/10/2009 16:23

BlairSnitch, whereabouts are you? I'm quite near Chesham, and everyone there says 'brought'. Drives me insane.

muggglewump · 20/10/2009 16:24

I hate it too.
Where has it come from?

As for the chest of draws. I once saw in a furniture shop, a price on 'Chester draw's'
I kid you not.

I had to leave the shop immediately and have a sit down.

Netmums?

TheBlairSnitchProject · 20/10/2009 16:34

I'm in MK Cregg. I hadn't heard it before I moved here...

Brought and bought rankle me too, as much as specific and pacific.

WhamBam · 20/10/2009 16:44

fluffles - afaik 'amn't i' is v common in ireland as it comes from the direct translation of the way questions are phrased in irish and so prob in gaelic too. Er, does that make sense?!

bodycolder · 20/10/2009 16:45

My personal bugbear is 'We was' and get off OF

TrillianSlasher · 20/10/2009 16:47

Do chester draws go with a Chesterfield sofa?

muggglewump · 20/10/2009 17:01

Chester draw's.
At least get it right

DadInsteadofMum · 20/10/2009 20:13

Chester's draws is what he keeps in the chest of drawers surely.

TrillianSlasher · 20/10/2009 21:25

I think they are "drawers" too.

CJCregg · 20/10/2009 22:09

Another one that bugs me - sorry, a bit out of the blue but I've just noticed it again on another thread is:

I text him and he said ...

It's texted, past fucking tense. Grrrrr.

TheBlairSnitchProject · 20/10/2009 22:36

"I done it" drives me crazy!

It's 'I did it' or 'I've done it' otherwise it's just wrong!
