How do you copy someone in on a letter?

Letter to Mr Smith but a copy to Mr Brown.

How and where do you let them both know they are both in on the letter?

TIA

DH is gobsmacked!

and do we write on the copy to Mr Brown

'Dear Mr Smith'

and do we highlight on Mr Brown's letter that his is a copy?

Mr Brown's is identical to Mr Smith's, except that normally on Mr Brown's copy you'd highlight the cc Mr Brown bit (e.g. with a yellow highlighter pen) so that he doesn't think "Why am I being sent Mr Smith's mail?"

He is writing to Mr Smith, yes?

Then put at the bottom, cc Mr Brown.

Take a copy of the letter. Use a highlighter pen (any colour, probably not pink) to highlight Mr Brown at the bottom.

Then send letter to the two different addresses.

You might want to put a covering note/letter to Mr Brown explaining that a copy of the letter to Mr Smith is enclosed.
