"lighting up your little learners - See what other mum's and dad's have to say"

If they are going to light up my little learners, I'd prefer them to get the grammer right. Oh dearie, dearie me. Have emailed them.

Sybilfaulty adheres to the well known rule which states that one cannot post on pedants' corner without oneself making a huge grammar/spelling/typing error.

Or is she kidding?

SybilFaulty · 02/03/2009 14:29

Oh Mrs B - what have I done?

I've also complained about the grammar.

Here is the link to BBC complaints and comments.

You can't get there directly from CBeebies.

How depressing that they can't even proof read for a page boasting about their educational credentials...

hotterpotter · 02/03/2009 18:50

I noticed this too, was and . It's quite depressing really that no-one picked it up. Seems to have been rectified already though, thank goodness!

Hmmmmmmm. I have had a reply.

(cross posted to Site stuff...)

I complained to the BBC about the stray apostrophes in that advert, and this is the reply that I got.

I cannot believe that this was Mumsnet's own copy? It was an advert, surely????? Justine???

Dear Annner,

Thanks for your e-mail regarding CBeebies.

I understand that you saw a mistake in an ad for CBeebeis on an external website, www.mumsnet.com.

Whilst I was unable to locate the ad on the website it appears that this is something which mumsnet.com have put on themselves to describe CBeebies to people who visit their site.

The BBC aren't responsible for the content found on any external sites of this nature.

Thanks once again for taking the time to contact us.

Regards

You are currently advertsing CBeebies channel and website on www.mumsnet.com.

I love CBeebies. However, I am horrified by the huge grammatical mistake in the middle of your advert, which reads: Lighting up your little learners - See what other mum's and dad's have to say"

It's rather worrying, to say the least, that an educational part of the BBC cannot get simple grammar correct in published text. While not wanting to sound like a member of the green ink brigade, I would expect texts to be proofread for accuracy before publication, and particularly when the text concerned is advertising your credentials as an organisation supporting a child's education.

Yours faithfully, Annner
