I wouldn't really like to pre-order any of your books

but I might like to order one

I wouldn't like to pre-book a restaurant table either

but I might like to book one

it's unnecessary, it's wrong, it's such a damn small thing but it is driving me nuts

Isn't a pre-order an order which goes into a queue until the thing is actually ready, while an order gets you the thing pronto?

stuffitllama · 29/01/2009 13:14

Is that Lemur?

I think that is what it's meant to mean but it's just WRONG

ok what about pre-book

An order is something that goes into a queue until it can be fulfilled. A pre-order would be ordering an order I think

As you said - a small thing!

stuffitllama · 29/01/2009 13:16

thank you for understanding my unreasonable ire

Pre-book is the same I guess, additional word used to convey meaning with no thought given to changes said extra word will have on meaning intended to be conveyed...

or something like that

one day I will be writing to the papers in green ink about things like this while grinding my false teeth

Thanks, I worked hard at it

I don't think that MNHQ is really to blame - surely this is just Amazon-speak. You pre-order something that will eventually be published, but which is currently not yet available for sale. Once the work is published you can then order it.
