mehgalegs · 20/10/2008 21:53

I cocked up on that one tonight but only because I was cross and typing vair, vair fast. I know I meant their, not there.

moondog · 20/10/2008 21:54

Well stop it. Instantly.

tissy · 20/10/2008 21:54

squeaver · 20/10/2008 21:55

Can we have this OP as a sticky at the top of Active Conversations please?

I may start a petition.

moondog · 20/10/2008 21:56

On rare occasions 'thar' (as in 'thar she blows') permissable but only if poster has spent at least 12 months esablisher her syntactic credentials.

So there.

Cheesesarnie · 20/10/2008 21:56

ok

(should i do lines or similar)

MoonlightMcKenzie · 20/10/2008 21:57

So thair!

Twiglett · 20/10/2008 21:59

Cheesesarnie .. it is easy just repeatedly look at title and think when you use the word.

Today Cheesesarnie .. tomorrow the world!

I have my own blind spot with who's and whose (as many pedants know) and try to think when I use them.

Aye Twigleet.
I am on yer tail re that one. As you well know

mehgalegs · 20/10/2008 22:29

There - We are here, the boys are over there.

edam · 20/10/2008 22:32

can anyone remind me about the correct usage of whose and who's?

MrsSplat · 20/10/2008 22:44

I know very well too; but once cocked up in crawly unproof-read email to my CEO .

I'll never:

  1. crawl by email
  2. fall foul of there/their

Again

MrsSplat · 20/10/2008 22:46

Who's knocking on my door?
Whose shoes are these?

Who's is only ever = who is

Right?

edam · 20/10/2008 22:51

Oh good, I knew that! Just had a moment of self-doubt.

Twiglett · 21/10/2008 14:39

I know that! Why do I keep getting them wrong then?

OP posts:
BloodyStranglingwithBling · 21/10/2008 14:46

Apparently, there's a typing thing too in that you tend to use the easiest one for typing. There/their being a classic exmaple. I think who's/whose is one too.

So you don't make the mistake in writing, but on the keyboard you do.

Twiglett · 21/10/2008 14:47

I spies an excuse

In DD's Y2 classroom a couple of years ago - a printed glossy card poster saying:

"Who's birthday is it?"

AAAAAGH!!!

VictorianSqualorSquelchNSquirm · 21/10/2008 15:04

Oh gosh yes.
'Your' is my pet hate. I wish I could spend the whole day sat online frequenting different talk boards saying you+re=you're

BloodyStranglingwithBling · 21/10/2008 15:05

Cynic!

UnquietDad · 21/10/2008 15:47

And seen in Clinton Cards: "Sorry Your Leaving".

Sorry my leaving what?...
