Sorry - I have to vent after receiving yet another email that's been signed off with Kind Regards - both words headed with a capital letter!!!! This happens on so much of my correspondence and it's irritating and wrong! Does anyone else find this annoying?

i didn't know people still said kind regards..

it's wrong but I would be delighted anyone even wrote it

Lakelover · 10/10/2008 16:03

Oh bleurgh - I get it ALL the time - so annoying... bah humbug!

When I was at school we were taught to use
'Yours faithfully' when writing to a company and not a specific person or if you didnt know the name of the person you were writing to e.g. 'the occupier' and 'Yours sincerely' if addressing the person by name. The idea being that you couldn't be sincere if you didnt know their name.

Shitemum · 10/10/2008 16:15

TBH i feel a bit old-fashioned now using those phrases...everyone uses 'best regards' in emails

Lakelover · 15/10/2008 14:45

I don't mind the usage one bit - it's the unecessary use of the capital letter in the second word that annoys me - Best Regards instead of Best regards. God- have I taken the pendantic thing too far?!

No, it's not possible to take the pedantic thing too far.

Best regards,

at least it wasn't 'cheers' -yuck

FunnyLittleFrog · 15/10/2008 16:22

Ooh, I hate 'cheers' on an email.

A woman I work with (a professional in her mid-50s) sends all her emails in lower case pink comic sans. Bleugh!

SheikYerbouti · 15/10/2008 16:27

One of my clients signs off his e-mails with a kiss. I guess from our telephone conversations that he is pushing 50. His name is Simon. Our e-mails go:

Hi Sheiky,

Hope you are well,

Thanks for the info regarding XXXXX

Cheers
Simon xxxxxx

I shudder every time one plops into my inbox

I have nver met him

(I also admit to capital R-ing on Regards)

PuppyMonkey · 15/10/2008 16:30

Is Kind regards old fashioned? I use it all the time.

At least it's not:

SheikYerbouti · 15/10/2008 16:31

The other thing I hate is the notebook-style background that some folk have on their e-mails. And infantile fonts.

Flamesparrow · 15/10/2008 16:31

I tend to go with "Many thanks", but always a small t

Flamesparrow · 15/10/2008 16:32

Oh that notebook thing scares me

VintageGardenia · 17/10/2008 10:21

In emails I usually put Many thanks or just Regards.

I usually start Dear X, I hope you are well, which I sometimes think is a bit like a small child laboriously writing thank you letters after Christmas!

Aaaaah I think I have found my area of Mumsnet. I feel at home here.
Personally I'm not a fan of anything with the old or , such as that one. shy smile, rolls on floor, all of that. Perhaps it's because I'm not down with the kids anymore. Ho hum.

grin · 17/10/2008 10:48

By the way, what's the notebook thing? Seem to have avoided that.
