Uneven Bars

I'm a little late with this but WTF...

When did we start to refer to the "uneven bars" in gymnastics? Are we now to dim to understand the word asymmetric?

We didn't podium in this event, much less medal....

Well, in relation to each other they are asymmetric. Whereas they both look pretty even to me.

They've been called asymmetric bars for as long as I can remember. Why is there any need to change?

Uneven makes them sound wobbly. Although they are, or course, symmetrical if you look at them perpendicularly, if you see what I mean.

They are an uneven height from the floor, and asymmetric if the line of symmetry is perpendicular to the floor.

Sorry, JackieNo, I forgot that without the application of the little yellow faces I am unable to convey irony. I've heard both podium and medal used as verbs and my skin crawls every time.

asymetric is far more precise IMHO as other have said uneven bars sounds like the bars themselves are uneven (like uneven steps) , not merely at differing heights

Neither term is meaningful unless you have a point of reference.

Assuming the said point of reference is the floor, and looking on sideways, both terms mean exactly the same thing.
