Two spaces after a full stop

Do you do this?

Or do you correct this in other people’s work by deleting all their extra spaces?

I was taught to put a double space after a full stop when I did touch typing at school in 1987. Still do it now and genuinely think it looks better.
I would say that learning to type was probably the most useful thing I did at school even though it was just a “filler” subject in my final year.

I also have the paragraph marks visible when I’m doing anything in Word which confuses other people no end - but makes it so much easier to spot formatting issues

I already posted this earlier in the thread, but as people keep asking why the were taught to use double spaces, I’ll post this again.

Typewriters were set up to accommodate the widest letter (which is ‘w’) regardless of whether the letter needed the space or not (an ‘I’ definitely didn’t). As all the letters were so spaced out, to ensure the end of a sentence was clear, a double space was used.

A computer is far more advanced than a typewriter. It can space letters depending on their width. The letters all sit correctly next to each other, so a double space isn’t needed after a full stop.

So if you do use double or spaces, you are showing your age!
