Why do so many people write priminister instead of prime minister

I keep seeing this everywhere now. And what's the excuse for this? Shameful?

When you type them, the letters get separated, so people must go back and redo them. The only one that doesn’t is fora, because it’s a word anyway, rather than for a.

I make a point of spelling Prime Minister whenever we get political. It comes from people who have only ever heard it spoken.

I guess those kids grow up to be adults.

Personally I would like anyone who also writes "alot" to be blasted into space with Elon Musk, but I'm not the priminister...

It's like people writing draw instead of drawer. Sure, you can understand it but really the standard of literacy is pretty poor.

Now I've put 'Pry, minister' into my head.

I get it a lot at school (history teacher) - also aswell, alot, abit - even from very intelligent GCSE students. Drives me mad and I correct it every time (also get everytime) and make a general comment to the class about it (obviously not naming individuals!) just to remind them all. One day it'll pay off...

The general public is on the whole thick

For all the people who say they've never seen this - go onto Facebook and look at the pages for your local area. 'Your Town Moan' for example. You will see people writing messages that look as though they have been dictated phonetically. Many many people do not read any printed material at all and firmly believe in Chester draws and putting people on a pedal stool because that is what they hear and they have absolutely no idea that it's not right.

I have seen primeminister being used repeatedly over on the Politics board here!! When I questioned why, one poster suggested it's because people don't bother proofreading on an informal website! Surely that isn't something that needs proofreading?
