I trust them implicitly

Does anyone, any more, still know what “implicitly” means?

Clearly by stating it, the trust is explicit.

What they invariably seem to mean is “completely“.

I realise the ship has sailed but, I weep.

This reminds me of a story my mum told me about when she was little. At school they sang Gentle Jesus, Meek and Mild, which contains the words ‘pity my simplicity’ but she always thought it was ‘pity mice implicitly’. Which confused her, but not enough to ever asked anyone why!

English is not my first language, but to me "implicitly" in this context means without caveats, without further proof necessary, no questiosn asked.

Makes sense to me and it doesn't sound like redundant.

And you've hit the nail on the head.

I trust them implicitly
