Christmas ‘Fayre’

Whether they mean fare or fair, equally cringe-making!

BTW ‘fayre’ is listed in my big fat dictionary as a ‘pseudo-archaic spelling of ‘fair’ (or, presumably, fare.)

What's wrong with a 'Christmas Bazaar'? Jesus was from the Middle East.

Nothing at all wrong with, it was what I thought they were all called until I got older and started seeing “Christmas Fair” . Our Bazaar was great, lots of stalls like tombola and other games, also second hand books/toys/clothes, then cake /sweets/drinks, and a Father Christmas grotto. Those were the days!

Don't the Americans have 'Renaissance Fayres'? I'm sure I've seen those on TV...

And I have a T shirt that I very proudly wear, that says 'Hardcore Thorn' with the thorn symbol (which I am buggered if I can find how to do on my laptop keboard). I realise this has nothing to do with fayres, but I do love it...

Renaissance Fair or Faire usually, I haven’t seen Fayre.

You could be right, I'm not sure I've ever seen it written down!

I have friends that do it because there is overlap with the reenactment community in the UK. It’s a very different culture!
They refer to ‘Faire’ and everyone knows what they are talking about thanks to that handy little archaic E!
