Unbelievable / Incredible yet again

What, now, does someone say if something was not believable or not credible?

Even well educated, by which I mean extensively educated, people people now describe anything remarkable, extraordinary, interesting, unexpected, superb, fantastic, enjoyable as… “Incredible“. Or unbelievable.

If I had a fiver for every time etc. etc.

I recently heard Rory Stewart use the word incredible five times within the space of two or three minutes. He is by no means the only culprit, sadly.

Bullshit

I think 'not believable' or 'not credible' would actually nail it, given the fate of those other words.

Well, yes, thank you. It was more a question to make a point than anything.

I think this sort of thing is connected to the modern need for hyperbole.

The use of 'literally' is another example. It is used very frequently when it is obviously untrue. E.g. I'm literally starving (when quite obviously not).
