Viewing people who use “distain” with disdain

I’ve been seeing this a lot recently, especially on here.

“She had a look of distain on her face.”
“I couldn’t hide the distain I felt.”
”You shouldn’t treat his views with distain.”

“Distain” is in the dictionary, but it’s archaic. It means to stain or discolour something, either literally or figuratively (tarnishing reputation, for example). “Disdain” is the word you’re looking for to signify an attitude of contempt or superiority.

It’s even worse when autocorrect doesn’t recognise it as a word, changes it to “sustain”, and the poster comes back to clarify with an incorrect correction.

I agree, OP. It's discusting!
