The sentence is: "We would have considered extending the mixed model across the school to compliment our enquiry based teaching and learning approach". Should it be complement?

Yes, it should be complement - as in 'go well with'.

Hassled · 03/05/2008 11:37

blimey, never noticed the difference. So, to say someone looks nice is to pay them a compliment?

Reminds me of the engineering department's "stationary cupboard" at work.
As opposed to everyone else's cupboards that move round the building at night!

asicsgirl · 03/05/2008 19:05

Ooh I love that one Miggsie. Reminds me... it's not the same thing, but I can never pass the door marked "Cleaners' Mess" at work without giggling.

Sanguine · 03/05/2008 21:04

LOL - I had to physically wrestle the dymo printer away from someone at work who wanted to make a label for our "stationary" cupboard.

Ooof. Got me It's a dangerous life, being a pedant!

I could point out that split infinitives have become acceptable usage in recent years, but I won't foolishly rush where angels fear to tread...
