Sorry I wasn't sure where to put this but though you pedants' would likely know..
My understanding of the word 'tithing' is that it was like an old religious giving (is it like a tax?) but anyway that it stemmed from 'the church' (a church? is it religion specific?), I might be wrong...
My question is, in this day and age is the word still used specifically in the context of religious giving or is it used in a looser way these days to describe voluntary giving, be it to a church or any other organisation?
