Which is more correct?

Have you got a pen?
Do you have a pen?
Have you a pen?

(3am bouncing session with dd, brain went into meltdown and it's bothering me.)

Do you have a pen?
Yes I do, thank you very much.

which merely establishes whether the person has a pen. But if you would like to use it then it is totally different and can only be

Please may I borrow a/your pen?

If it's school pupils asking you then reply with, "Yes. Do you?" When they really mean, "May I borrow a pen please?".

I often wonder that too MB, the "I've not got a pen/I haven't got a pen" thing I mean. As a child did you also say "I amn't" instead of "I'm not"?

I probably would say "Have you got a pen?" but my mum, who is usually correct, would say "Do you have a pen?"
