‘Screamed at’

I’ve noticed lots of posts on here recently where someone has been ‘screamed at.’ At first I thought ‘wow sounds extreme.’ But now I’ve seen it so many times I think people are using it to mean ‘shouted’ or ‘yelled.’ Screaming literally means screaming, as in, a loud piercing high-pitched noise. No words would be heard, it’s just a noise.
As you can probably tell, I find it really annoying. 😂

“Screamed at” to mean shouted angrily is in the dictionary and common usage.

There is a difference, though it's minor. As Merriam Webster has it, a scream is a loud, sharp, penetrating cry whereas a shout is just a loud cry or call. A shout is not sharp and penetrating like a scream. A shout can just be trying to be heard over other noise or calling to somehow who is at a distance.
Screaming is usually about fear, rage or shock whereas shouting could be about exultation, like a crowd at a sporting event.
Screaming is usually higher pitched.
Yell is defined in MW as either a scream or a shout.

Yeesh, the things I get interested in when I'm bored. Sorry about that.

Well it looks like I stand corrected, ‘scream’ isn’t just the high-pitched noise you emit when you see the price of a breakfast pastry at Gail’s. But still, I don’t like it, I tell you. I think people are being far too dramatic and I agree with those that say people probably mean ‘shouted at.’
