One of my relatives (from the West Midlands) always says "it's about 10 mile away" or "that was three year ago", it grates on me (SE England) but is it a regional thing and I should stop letting it annoy me? Or is it just them. Not sure if I'm being pedantic letting it annoy me or not.

Colloquialism, I'd hope. Hopefully they only say it and not write it.

LessOfMe99 · 12/09/2024 12:16

It is regional.

It's probably regional, but it's still wrong.

Thanks all. I will grin and bear it.

Very common in Yorkshire where people say they have been married 20 year, have known someone 10 year and so on. They also miss out "for" before the number. My friend who's a senior manager in the civil service does this but she'd never write it!

Interesting, I'm from a Yorkshire family (although lived all my life in the SE) but I've never noticed any of my Yorkshire family saying it just the Birmingham ones.
