So how do you prounounce 'necklace'?

Until yesterday, I had only ever heard it pronounced one way - 'neckless' - but yetserday my boss was talking to me and pronounced it as if it was 2 seperate words - i.e. neck-lace.

Does anyone else pronounce it like that as I have never ever heard that before - I wondered what the hell she was talking about

I certainly used to pronounce it neck-lace (as does my sister, friends from "home") but dh has nagged corrected me so much that I now say neckluss

neckless. What about tooth?? Is it tooooth (as I say it) or tuth (as dp says it)??

She has lived in the North West all her life I think (although she does speak 'posh' and not with a northern accent).

I think 'loon' sums her up tbh

neck lace - never noticed that anyone said neckless till my friend at work pointed out I was aparrently a complete weirdo and they had all been having a good old titter about my strange pronounciation?! Have checked it out with various people since then and it would seem it is a northern thing. I am from Nottingham, live in London.

What about this one. Do you say Tortus or, tortoisse. Dd and I differ on this as well. Apparently tortus is wrong?!

Or Scown ( as in own with a sc at the start )

Most of my cousins said Scown
