Until yesterday, I had only ever heard it pronounced one way - 'neckless' - but yetserday my boss was talking to me and pronounced it as if it was 2 seperate words - i.e. neck-lace.

Does anyone else pronounce it like that as I have never ever heard that before - I wondered what the hell she was talking about

your boss is weird

CeilingCat · 18/04/2008 15:25

neckless

(Although I do say 'goose berry' rather than 'goozbry' like my DH...who laughs at me).

BoysAreLikeDogs · 18/04/2008 15:26

Neckless

She is a loon

PuppyMonkey · 18/04/2008 15:27

I pronounce it neck lace.

Neckless???? WTF???

Posey · 18/04/2008 15:27

I certainly used to pronounce it neck-lace (as does my sister, friends from "home") but dh has nagged corrected me so much that I now say neckluss
Where is your boss from?

BenFMsmum · 18/04/2008 15:29

neckless. What about tooth?? Is it tooooth (as I say it) or tuth (as dp says it)??

ceebee74 · 18/04/2008 15:29

She has lived in the North West all her life I think (although she does speak 'posh' and not with a northern accent).

I think 'loon' sums her up tbh

Yep toooth. My dad and gran, from Bristol, say tuth.

PuppyMonkey · 18/04/2008 15:31

Well if you pronounced necklace neckless in Nottingham you'd get your head kicked in or something

neck lace - never noticed that anyone said neckless till my friend at work pointed out I was aparrently a complete weirdo and they had all been having a good old titter about my strange pronounciation?! Have checked it out with various people since then and it would seem it is a northern thing. I am from Nottingham, live in London.

BenFMsmum · 18/04/2008 15:34

Thank you Posey!! My dp is welsh and they all say tuth here!

I'll remember that Puppymokney if I'm ever in Nottingham!!

BoysAreLikeDogs · 18/04/2008 15:34

This is like the old debate we used to regualrily have at the dinner table, when the family ( extended - aunts, uncles and cousins ) all got together.....

How do you pronounce Scone ?

DO you say
Scon
Or Scown ( as in own with a sc at the start )

Its not easy writing down pronunciation is it?

I say ' Scon'
Most of my cousins said Scown
