I don't think it matters.

I say SHedule
but I know lots of people who say SKedule.

I think it's a bit like scone: scown/sconn

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 18/04/2008 09:20

actually, I think I say SKedule.

I can't remember now, am trying to say it to myself but I'm saying both...

BellaBear · 18/04/2008 09:21

SH is british
SK is american

BellaBear · 18/04/2008 09:22

pronunciation

Katisha · 18/04/2008 09:30

Oh I've nearly started this one on many an occasion! In Britain we say SHedule but most reporters don't seem to know that. I spend a lot of time shouting at the television. (Well it keeps me happy...)

SquonkTheBeerGuru · 18/04/2008 10:19

of course I was right the first time

I say SHedule.

Nice to know that SKedule is American, and SHedule is British.

NaughtyNigel · 18/04/2008 15:16

SHedule it is. and unSHeduled too.

MascaraOHara · 18/04/2008 16:08

SHedule in UK, Skedule in US. Typically, at least (after my contribution to the "anymore/any more" thread).

btw, scone (pronounced sconn) is the small cake-like snack served with any or all of butter, jam and cream.

BUT, there is also Scone (pron scoon) which is a town in Scotland, site of a palace and former coronation site of the Kings of Scotland e.g. The Stone of Scone (aka the Stone of Destiny)...just to confuse matters.

LyraSilvertongue · 19/04/2008 01:01

Shedule is UK pronunciation
Skedule is US pronunciation

I've been saying skedule for years - oh dear

Novicecamper · 19/04/2008 12:33

Ditto WW - it's skedule!

Novicecamper · 19/04/2008 12:34

God, I don't think I've ever heard 'shedule' - always skedule in my neck of the woods.

EyeballsintheSky · 20/04/2008 20:21

I say scHedule but then I have issues with school, which, judging by that, should surely be shool? Therefore, sKedule makes sense.

Oh I know, English doesn't work like that...!

WendyWeber · 21/04/2008 14:04

And scheme is skeme, not sheme!

BugBearisBugBear · 21/04/2008 22:45

shedule/scown

maidamess · 21/04/2008 22:46

SKEDULE. And I'm British through and through.

edam · 21/04/2008 22:50

shedule here. Skedule does sound very American. Which probably means we'll all be saying it in about ten years.

When the Chinese take over as most powerful nation, do you think the Yanks will lose their sway over the English language, and we can just get on with it, like the Dutch do? AFAIK (not that I do, really) Afrikaans doesn't really influence Netherlands Dutch.
