😮
Waitrose? Oh dear me, oh no, no, no!

<clutches pearls with one hand and reaches for smelling salts with the other>

HoxtHun · 23/08/2024 15:17

I do feel it’s pretty much the end of plurals as I’ve known them …

Isn’t that “avocado is full of good fats”?

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 23/08/2024 15:18

Ah no, just noticed the comma. Eek!

HoxtHun · 23/08/2024 15:19

I tried very hard to make it make sense.

cariadlet · 23/08/2024 15:22

That's really depressing.

Zimunya · 23/08/2024 15:24

Waitrose, of all places! One expects better...

bergamotorange · 23/08/2024 15:26

I assume it is a homage to the traditional grocer's apostrophe.

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 23/08/2024 15:17

Isn’t that “avocado is full of good fats”?

"Avocado is, full of good fats" isn't any better!

HoxtHun · 23/08/2024 15:41

I have emailed them.

(I am now officially officious. But it’s too dreadful to ignore.)

GreenShady · 23/08/2024 15:47

I think it was the only possible thing you could have done under the circumstances.

longdistanceclaraclara · 23/08/2024 18:10

To be fair it's not a Waitrose own brand but you would think (would have thought?!) someone would have noticed.

Either way, don't buy them, revolting green slush.

pigsDOfly · 23/08/2024 18:32

Good heavens.

My pearls have been well and truly clutched.

PedantScorner · 25/08/2024 15:36

Is it part of an advertisement?

HoxtHun · 25/08/2024 16:05

It is an advert. Half a page in the August 22nd paper. The smaller print below says

Selected stores, subject to availability. Serving suggestion.

So they can’t blame anyone else for it …

No reply to my email yet!

Avocado's, full of good fats

An apostrophe and a comma, but no full stop. What is the world coming to?

DadJoke · 25/08/2024 16:06

Dear, dear Waitrose! Know your market.

soupfiend · 25/08/2024 16:10

SnowflakeSmasher86 · 23/08/2024 15:17

Isn’t that “avocado is full of good fats”?

Yes, thats what I thought?

Avocado is full of good fats.

Is there meant to be a comma though, in between Avocado is and full of good fats?

By the way dont pull me up on lack of apostrophe, I know Im in the wrong section of the forum to beg forgiveness but I never use them when typing on here, too much effort. Sorry.

soupfiend · 25/08/2024 16:11

bergamotorange · 23/08/2024 15:26

I assume it is a homage to the traditional grocer's apostrophe.

I really miss that. You dont see it nowadays.

Or 'potatoe' or 'tomatoe'

But about 20 miles from us, down a dual carriage way, are lots of signs for a farm/market thing off to the side, never been there but they sell 'our own juicy plumbs'

Love that.

PJ04JCW · 25/08/2024 16:18

Oh dear.
I saw it's when it should have been its in letters 30cm tall on the wall in Next Home in Costessey the other day.

RechargeableGnu · 25/08/2024 16:58

I think I can beat that, sadly...

NHS AND Tesco - shocking that no-one proof read it!

Does'nt AND i'ts?!
Bit blurry on my phone though!

HoxtHun · 26/08/2024 09:21

The Tesco mistakes might be inadvertent rather than fundamental - if one is being generous. And they aren’t defacing crucial words, or the central message.

I guess there’s an NHS manager somewhere whose bloated salary has extinguished the provision of proofreaders or better than minimum wage AI.

Is Avocado’s a pun on Ocado? Like ‘AvOcado’s, full of good fats’.
Sainsbury’s, the home of fresh bread.

HoxtHun · 26/08/2024 09:41
Hmm Grin

No.
